Volunteer Opportunity – Cross on the Commons

The one and only Club event/fundraiser, since the start of COVID, is about to happen.  Read all about it!

Cross On The Commons occurs on:  October 3, 2021.  Racing starts at 9:30.  This will be the fourth year that we have held the cyclocross race as part of the Cross On The Rock (COTR) series.  The Qualicum Beach event is the second race in a six race series.

Come race day we need people for course setup, registration, timing, parking and course marshalls and course breakdown.

Course setup will begin late Saturday, Oct. 2 and 12 people are needed for this.

Registration opens at 9:30 to about 2 pm.  Three or four people.  Always busy at the beginning then tapers towards noon.

Timing starts at 10:45 to about 3:15.  Four to 6 timers needed, could be broken into shifts/specific races.

Course marshalls – 6 more

Course breakdown – still need 4-6 people for this but racers frequently help.

One or two people to monitor parking and direct racers and spectators.

As other years, a meal ticket for your efforts, ie. Knockananna Grill.  More info about details to volunteers closer to race day.

COVID-19  Safety Protocols

All aspects of the event will be held outdoors and situated along the paved path between the lower and middle playing fields.  Close to the kids playground.  We do not have use of the Civic Centre so even registration will be outside and under canopies.  Washrooms are in the stand-alone building in the same location.

COTR has already indicated that all participants must be vaccinated.  They have quite an extensive outline and I recommend that everyone follow the link below:

http://www.crossontherock.com/about/covid-19-safety-protocols/

A lot of the same protocols will be required for volunteers also.  Namely masks being required during all aspects of the event and in situations and locations where safe distancing cannot be maintained.  And, of course, you have been double vaccinated and can provide your vaccine card/passport.

The first race happens in Cumberland on Sunday, Sept 19th.  This will set the standard for how things will happen during these COVID times.  Further info can be provided to volunteers after that event.

Living with COVID, wow, trying times but let’s do this.  Thank you for pondering this and hopefully are still willing to help out!
