Club Update

Greetings club members,

First out of the starting gate:  The new Park trails are starting to show the effects of numerous winter rains and wind storms.  I would like to call a trail day for next Saturday, Jan 23rd, at 10am.  We could probably get it done in a couple of hours or sooner with 8 or more people.  In Covid times, family bubbles could work together but individuals should work separated by 2+ meters.  We will split up and work at different trail locations.  Basically all of the trails need to be raked.  Smaller leaf rakes work best, so bring your favourite.  A hand saw or pruner could also be useful for roots etc.  Park either in the smaller lot near the campground or the main parking lot.  I’ll send out a reminder later in the week.  If you want to confirm, drop me a line. (CANCELED)

I guess the main action at HammerFest for the club has been the ongoing trail building and maintenance.  As above, there have been lots of windfalls that have impacted trails.  (Thanks to Howie and others for the fast chainsaw action on a lot of these)  Trailforks (TF) has been the main resource for this type of issue.  Surprising how many notifications are received from TF users reports, 60 since January 1!  Mind you, some of them tell us how good the trails are.  And judging from the vehicles at the yellow gate, HF is still a popular riding location with a lot of riders using TF.

Trail building is still moving forward with improvements to Scooby Doo, completion of Go Viral and a short climbing road to road connector called CycloTherapy.  All on Trailforks and ready for your riding enjoyment.  Other trail ideas have been discussed so stay tuned.

And, again, your club membership is good to March 31/21.  (Though I believe there are some that have that extended to 2022 already)  So close to the end of March expect Membership man Paul to be in contact for renewal.

The club is now affiliated with Cycling BC and IMBA for the 2021 season.

So ride on, thanks,

V-P Roy
