Autumn Update

The Englishman River Falls Park new trails continue to attract a lot of users.  There are two counters near the start of Milky Way, an Infrared sensor and a magnetic sensor at two different locations that capture activity coming and going.  The IR will pick up anything that moves (dogs, leaves etc) but the Mag one is for capturing mtbikes.  Even though Parks calls the new trails multi-use, it appears that mtbikes are the main users and this, more than anything, is what the trails were designed for.  During August and into Sept, daily usages could be any where from 50-100 users with a whole lot more on the weekends.  I’m sure a lot of these riders will venture into HammerFest on The Big Bang trail or via Cranky.  So our 10 year maintenance agreement on these trails is going to add up to some work at some point.  Right now it is too dry to do much.  The trails are actually a lot of fun to ride so I hope everyone has been out there and enjoying them.  Or any trail/gravel or asphalt road for that matter!

HammerFest continues to be a popular destination for a lot of riders.  A number of these riders are using the Trailforks (TF) mobile app to get around and record rides and in the last week there have been 59 reports/comments/trail status updates.  There have also been 86 TF ridelogs registered.  Those would be riders that are using a linked Strava account or TF to record rides but some of whom may not have made a specific report or comment.  Judging from the traffic at HammerFest as well as the usage via the Park, a lot of people just get out there and ride.  I wonder what a true count would be of users, including trail runners and hikers?
